[REVIEW] Xiaomi Yi WiFi Enabled Car Dash Camera. Features ADAS & Emergency Recording

XiaoYi (Yi Technology) the sub-brand company of Xiaomi has this Yi Dash Camera that surprisingly cheap for what it can offers.

Built & Features



The Yi Dash Cam has a size approximately GoPro-sized action camera. with a 2.7-inch display with resolution of 426 x 240 pixel, which is reasonable for a dashboard camera. The built is sturdy and light although overall built are plastic. It has four buttons along the bottom of the display for quick settings and preview.



Like others car dashboard camera, it feature an ultra wide-angle of 165-degrees f/1.8 aperture lens and large image sensor for better low light recording. It does shoot in 1,920 x 1,080 @ 30fps, 1,920 x 1,080 @ 60fps and 2,304 x 1,296 @ 30fps.

The Yi Dash Cam includes additional safety features which calling Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These include Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Forward Sensing System (FSS) and Emergency Recording. The Yi Dash camera will notify you when it detecting lane changes and possibility collision ahead. It would also perform an emergency recording when it believe you had an accident. The ADAS will only enabled when you shoot in 1,920 x 1,080 @ 30fps.

Installation 





Installation is rather simple and straight-forward. Mount the dash camera on the windscreen and connect the microUSB cable which provided. Pull the cable through your car roof cover and side door cover till it reach to the car charger inlet. Connect to the USB car charger and slot in your microSD card (support up to 64GB).

Do take note, Yi Dash Cam only support "Class 10" microSD card due to requirement of fast writing/reading speeds. So before you purchase the memory for the camera, do look for "Class 10".

WiFi & Settings



The Yi Dash Cam support WiFi connection where you just need to install Yi Dash Camera app (Android & iOS) and you can communicate with the dash camera. You can have live view of the recording on your smart device and as well view or copy of the footage. All the settings can be alters through the app itself such as Video Quality, Timestamp, Microphone, ADAS and more.

This is very useful as you do not need to configure on the camera itself after you mounted on your windscreen. Previewing and copying footage from the dash camera to your smartphone is breeze.

Verdict

This is one feature packed dash camera that will not burn your pocket. Impressively low light recording, built-in WiFi and sturdy built quality. Would highly recommend for those who have budget constraint and need a good dashboard camera.

The Yi Dash Camera can be found locally for around RM 200 - RM 300 and it's available in two colors options; Champagne Gold and Light Grey.
