OPPO is now among the world’s top five smartphone company. The F1s is the third OPPO F-series that focus on the selfie photo taking and has gained some recognition with it great front-camera.

Here’s a comprehensive review of the device after using it as my primary smartphone for a week. You may want to check out the unboxing video HERE!

Design

At first glance you will find it looks very much identical with iPhone 6 Plus that has very close form factor. Even my friend thought I’ve switched to Apple iPhone. It has a metal unibody design and a physical semi round rectangle home button with Gold/Rose Gold trim. Fingerprint scanner is found beaneath the home button accompanied by “Back” and “Overview” buttons that has backlight when in use.

The rear metal back has slight curved on both side making it ergonomic and fit easily in my hand. It’s very light and doesn’t feel slippery while holding it bare. It does included a transparent TPU case and pre-installed film screen protector which I find it very thoughtful of them.

Display

It features a 5.5-inch IPS HD display which is very bright and high in contrast. The F1s display is still viewable under direct sunlight which is a plus point. We may take Selfie under sunlight for better natural lighting.

Performance

The OPPO F1s is powered by MediaTek Helio P10, an Octa-core 64 bits processor and 3GB of RAM. This may only be a mid-range setup but it able to handle most of my daily apps seamlessly without any complains.

Camera

Let’s start off with the rear camera. It has a 13 megapixel f/2.2 aperture lens that is more than capable to handle both low-light and bright daylight settings. Although it has auto-focus assistant, PDAF, I did find the rear camera auto focus very slow. Overall the photo quality is decent and no noticeable color bleeds.

The camera also allows you to shoot time-lapse, panorama, GIF animation, double exposure , Ultra HD and even expert mode where you can control shutter speed, ISO, WB, also save in RAW format.

Move on to the highlight, the selfie camera. OPPO F1s is boasted with a 16 megapixel f/2.0 aperture camera feature Beauty 4.0. Beauty 4.0 is a picture-tweaking mode that offers 7 levels of beautification and 2 skin tone modes to improve your selfie taking another new level.

OPPO F1s has this Screen Flash that converts the F1s’ entire display into a camera flash so you can take selfies even under low-light conditions. The photos taken with the front camera is surprisingly sharp, crisp and bright even indoors.

Fingerprint Scanner, Blazing Fast. Multi-use Fingerprint Scanner

Like it F1 Plus, it integrated with an ultra-fast fingerprint scanner chip that able to unlock your device in 0.02 seconds. I can’t even count 0.02 seconds though.

I can also assign individual fingerprints for action like launching an app, make call and etc which I find it quite practical and useful.

Software

Just it design, the Operating System that uses on OPPO F1s is powered by OPPO’s own ColorOS 3.1 based on Android 5.1 has a lot similarity with iOS. There are no app drawer and has very less bloatware which is good!

The OS is very well optimized and able to handle tasks very well. OPPO should have to pay more attention to it OS as the software update is rather slow or even none.

Dual 4G, Dual Standby & Dedicated microSD Card Slot

The OPPO F1s has a 32GB onboard storage which is plentiful for photo and video albums. Still the storage can be further expanded with a dedicated microSD card slot. Thus you wouldn’t need to give up two one of the nano SIM slot to make extra room for microSD card.

Battery

The OPPO F1s has 3,000 mAh battery which is quite decent for a 720P display smartphone. It lasted me for more than 24 hours leaving 25% of juice despite I used it a lot on WhatsApp, web browsing, watch YouTube, Facebook and of course taking selfie.

The only drawback of OPPO F1s is it doesn’t support it renowned VOOC Flash Charge. Charging a flat 3,000 mAh would take easily 2 hours plus to reach full capacity.

Verdict

OPPO F1s live up as it claimed to be “Selfie Expert” where it takes impressively crisp and sharp selfie photo. The OPPO F1s is bang for the buck that features packed for sub RM 1,200.

The only drawback is old software, no LED notification and missing VOOC Flash Charging.
